Last night I did something I thought only the Amish could do. I made butter.
This recipe took me 10 minutes and only has 2 ingredients. I used my Vitamix, but I’ve read all over the internet that you can use a standard blender/food processor to do it as well!
Homemade Butter
This is much healthier than regular butter because you control the amount and quality of the ingredients. No additives here!

Total Time10 mins
Servings: 10
Ingredients
- 2 cups Cream 1 pint
- Salt to Taste
Instructions
- Pour the cream into your Vitamix (or blender).
- Select Variable 1 on the Vitamix and slowly increase speed to Variable 10, then High. If you are using a traditional blender, start low and then go high.
- Blend until the mixture is thick and you hear a change in the sound of the blender.
- Stop the blender and scrapes down the sides with a spatula to bring the cream into the center.
- Reset the Vitamix to Variable 5 (medium on a regular blender).
- Turn the blender on and blend for about 5 seconds, stop and scrape sides down again.
- Keep repeating this process several times until you see a fluid start to appear. You will know when the butter is forming.
- Blend for a few more seconds until solid butter sets up in center of container.
- Place butter in a fine mesh strainer to drain. Work butter with a spatula or your hands to remove as much liquid as you can.
- Remove butter to a bowl and add salt to taste.
That’s it! I was able to do this the first time, so I think you should too! This is much healthier than regular butter because you control the amount and quality of the ingredients. No additives here!
Now I just have to learn how to make homemade bread to spread it on…
Love always,

Erica, this is great! I am so doing this. SO much cheaper and healthier than store-bought! And I have a homemade bread recipe that will make your head spin – check it out! I will admit I have only ever made this in Pampered Chef stoneware covered bakers (the Deep Covered Baker or the Round Covered Baker for a 1/2 recipe) and have no idea how it would be in anything else. Naturally I tell everyone: get the Deep Covered Baker; just use this bread recipe and the thing will pay for itself in the cost of bread in a few months! I LOVE this recipe and haven’t bought bread since I learned it months and months ago!
Homemade Bread in 5 minutes for $0.40!
3 c Flour (So far I’ve tried all white, all wheat and various combinations and recommend at least some white flour because the texture is better; all wheat tends to be drier and more dense)
1 1/2 Tbs Active Dry Yeast
1 1/2 Tbs Kosher Salt
1 1/2 c Water (the temperature doesn’t matter!)
Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl, then add water. Stir until well mixed; it will be sticky and ‘shaggy’ – this is good. Cover and let rise at least two hours. Spread some flour on the counter or pastry mat and on your hands. Turn the dough out on to the counter and form it into a loaf shape. Use enough flour so it’s not sticky any more but you don’t have to knead it. Place in the Deep Covered Baker (you don’t have to spray it but you could line it with parchment paper if you’re worried about sticking. Mine doesn’t stick and my Baker is fairly well seasoned). Cover and let rise another 2 hours. Size should about double or more. Bake at 375*, covered, for about 30-35 minutes until it feels firm to the touch. Note: Always cook with Stoneware on the lower rack of the oven for the best and most even cooking! 🙂 Uncover and bake another 8-10 minutes until the loaf is nicely browned. Let cool a few minutes in Baker and then remove to cooling rack. Ta-Da! Seriously amazing.
I can’t wait to try it with your homemade butter! YUM!!!

In Step 9, you say “Work butter with a to remove as much liquid as you can” work butter with a “what”?

with a spatula or your hands! Thanks for catching that!
