Hi guys! Todays blog post is going to be a little different than usual because it’s the first one that I haven’t written myself!
You see, my husband, Dan, took our daughter to the Daddy-Daughter date night at the Chick-fil-A at Old Orchard this week and really wanted to share his story on why he thinks these special nights are so important.
After swooning for a minute (I mean, how sexy is that?), I came-to, and realized that this man hasn’t even written me a card since we’ve been together. Now he thinks he can write a blog post?!
“Well, this should be interesting…”, I thought.
To be honest, he actually surprised me and I’m so excited to share his story (written by him) with you below…

Similar to my wife, I work a lot.
It is not uncommon for me to be out of town, at the office or at home swamped with work. Outside of the early mornings, it is very hard to find time during the week to spend with Elia. That is why it is important for me to schedule a special time during the week, where I put work on pause, and spend time with my daughter.
The most recent special time that I set aside was for a Daddy-Daughter date night at Chick-fil-A. Yes, this is a real thing!
I was excited to have a quick dinner with Elia (at one of my favorite spots) where there would be plenty of activities to entertain her. The thought of taking her to a traditional, sit-down restaurant gives me heart palpitations because she has a three second attention span (that she probably got from me), so this was perfect!
This isn’t any normal night out at Chick-fil-A though! When we showed up, they had people there to greet us and a table set up with flowers and dress-up props for a photo shoot.
We were shown to our reserved table where we dropped our stuff and escorted over to the photo area to have our picture taken. They gave us the photo and told us not to put our fingers on it as it developed. Similar to when a waiter tells me not to touch a hot plate, I disobeyed and Elia did the same.
We went back to our table and within a few minutes a waiter came by to take our order. I got two chicken sandwiches (because calories don’t count on daddy-daughter date night) and Elia got the chicken strips and waffle fries.
While they were preparing the food, Elia and I went to the indoor playground. I ignored the first 11 times she pointed to it and said “play”, but persistence paid off and the 12th time was a charm. Elia had such a great time playing!
When we got done playing, the food was at the table and we were ready to eat! After a celebratory waffle fry “cheers “, I ate the first chicken sandwich in under a minute as Elia squirmed from my lap. Elia loved dipping the waffle fries in all the different sauces and I think our favorite was the Chick-fil-A sauce.
The daddy-daughter date at Chick-fil-A is a great idea, especially for dads with young kids. We were in and out before she could even say, “melt down” and she was happy and entertained the entire time. I would definitely recommend this event to any father who just needs to pause work and spend time with their daughter.
They really grow up too fast.
Love,
Dan
