Growing up, whenever my family went out for Mexican food, they would always “hold the guacamole.” Since they didn’t want to eat it, I figured it was gross! It wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I got up the courage to try this traditional dip. Once I did, I couldn’t believe I went my entire life without it.
From the moment I tasted “guac”, I was determined to perfect the recipe and put a twist on it to ensure mine would be a stand out.
My guacamole recipe is simple, but it has one ingredient that sets it apart, mango. I know it seems strange and a little out of place, but trust me, it works! The sweetness of the mango, coupled with the spice of the jalapeño and the tartness of the lime creates a perfect balance of flavor.
Recipe: The Perfect Guacamole (With a Tropical Twist)
Ingredients
- 1 Ripe Avocado
- 1/2 clove Garlic pressed
- 1/4 piece Jalapeño pressed
- 1/2 Lime juiced
- 1 Small Tomato diced
- 1/4 cup Red Onion diced
- 1/4 cup Mango diced
- Salt/ Pepper
- OPTIONAL: Couple of Teaspoons of Cilantro I never add it because cilantro tastes like soap to me
Instructions
- Half the avocado the long way, remove the pit, dice and place in bowl.
- Use a garlic press to mince a half a garlic clove and add it to the avocado. Do the same with the small piece of jalapeño. Feel free to add more if you want it spicier.I understand most people just finely chop the garlic/jalapeño, but who wants to bite down on a chunk of raw garlic or hot peppers? I sure don’t.
- Add fresh lime juice.**Tip: If the lime is a little hard, put in the microwave for 5 seconds and it will juice much easier**
- Add diced tomato, onion and mango. Mash together until you reach the consistency you desire.
- Season with salt and pepper (to taste) and let it sit in the fridge for a half hour before serving.
That’s it! A pretty simple recipe, right?
Next time you’re having a mexican feast, give my guacamole and try and let me know what you think!
Love always,
